When the days get short, a warm week somewhere else starts to look like a necessity. The trick is that "warm" and "good weather" aren't the same. Plenty of tropical places are hot in winter and also in their rainy season.
Places Where Winter Is the Dry Season
- The Caribbean and Mexico's coasts. The dry season generally runs from about December to April, after hurricane season ends. That's also peak season, so expect higher prices around the holidays.
- Thailand's Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi). Usually at its best from about November to April. The Gulf coast, around Koh Samui, follows a different pattern and can be wet from October to December.
- The Gulf, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Summer is fiercely hot. Roughly November to March is pleasant.
Places Where Winter Is Summer
South of the equator, December to February is summer:
- Australia and New Zealand. Long days and peak beach season, with school holidays to match.
- South Africa. Cape Town is generally warm and dry over these months.
- Southern South America. Patagonia's short hiking season, and long days in Buenos Aires and Santiago.
Places That Are Mild, Not Hot
- The Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa, stay mild through the winter and are a short flight from most of Europe.
- Southern Spain and Portugal won't be beach-hot, but they're often sunny and far milder than northern Europe.
How to Book It Well
- Avoid the holiday weeks if you can. Mid-January to February is often cheaper than late December for the same beach.
- Check the season for the exact place, not the country. Coasts a few hundred miles apart can have opposite weather.
- Look at nearby airports. Many resort areas have more than one airport within reach.
- Search a few days either side. Flexible dates matter most in peak season.
How Wayzuno Helps
Wayzuno prices the days around your dates and searches nearby airports by default, so the warmest week you can find is also priced against its alternatives.
